Garrett Martin is a professional outfielder with experience through Triple-A in the New York Yankees organization, but his understanding of hitting was not built through one perfect swing, one breakout season, or one straight path through the game. It was built through years of adjustments.
Growing up in Westminster, Colorado, Garrett developed first as an athlete. From age nine through eighteen, he played for Slammers Baseball, progressing through the program during the most formative years of his development.
At Standley Lake High School, Garrett played shortstop and finished his senior baseball season hitting .421 with seven home runs. He was rated the No. 1 shortstop in Colorado's 2018 class and was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 22nd round of the MLB Draft.
Baseball was not his only sport. Garrett also competed in basketball and track and field, earning all-state recognition in basketball and winning the Colorado Class 4A high-jump championship with a jump of 6-foot-10.
That athletic foundation continues to shape how he views hitting today. The swing does not operate independently from the rest of the body. Movement quality, intent, timing, and athleticism all affect what a hitter is capable of doing in the box.
Rather than signing out of high school, Garrett continued his development at McLennan Community College. He hit .335 with nine home runs during his first college season before the following year was cut short by COVID-19. In 2021, he helped McLennan win the NJCAA Division I national championship while hitting .355 with 20 home runs, 69 RBI, and 73 runs scored. He recorded a hit in all five games of the Junior College World Series.
From McLennan, Garrett transferred to Oklahoma State. He appeared in 20 games and made 12 starts, hitting .250 with two home runs. That experience became another part of his development: progress does not always appear immediately in statistics or playing time.
Garrett found his next opportunity at Austin Peay. In 2023, he hit .333 with 15 home runs and 46 RBI in 43 starts. His .461 on-base percentage ranked eighth in the ASUN, and his .709 slugging percentage was the sixth-highest single-season mark in Austin Peay history. He reached base safely in 31 consecutive games, hit a grand slam against nationally ranked Vanderbilt, and earned Second Team All-ASUN honors.
His season ended early because of injury, and his name was not called in the 2023 MLB Draft. Shortly afterward, however, the New York Yankees signed him as a free agent. Once again, the next step had to be earned.
Garrett began his professional career with Single-A Tampa before moving through High-A Hudson Valley and Double-A Somerset. During that climb, he experienced the constant adjustments demanded by professional baseball: better velocity, sharper breaking balls, more detailed scouting reports, and pitchers who could expose weaknesses more consistently.
Garrett was named South Atlantic League Player of the Week in 2024 after a stretch in which he reached base at a .581 rate and hit three home runs. That fall, he was selected for the Arizona Fall League Rising Stars Game and won the Arizona Fall League Home Run Derby.
After spending 2025 in Double-A, Garrett returned to Somerset in 2026 and produced the best stretch of his professional career. He hit 21 home runs in Somerset's first 67 games—the most in the club's affiliated history—and led both the Eastern League and the Yankees' minor-league system in home runs and RBI when he was promoted.
On June 20, 2026, Garrett reached Triple-A. By that point in the season, including his first games with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, he had hit .270 with 24 home runs, 64 RBI, 18 stolen bases, and a .907 OPS.
The performance was not the result of discovering one secret. It was the result of years spent learning how to evaluate a swing, understand an approach, make useful adjustments, and translate training into competition. That journey is the foundation of Garrett Martin Hitting.
Garrett does not believe complete hitter development means forcing every player into the same swing. Effective coaching begins by understanding the individual player and identifying what will create the greatest improvement for that hitter.
The goal is bigger than producing a better-looking swing on video. It is developing an athlete who understands what they are working on, why they are working on it, and how to carry it into an at-bat.
Garrett has experienced nearly every side of that process: being drafted, going unsigned, winning a national championship, receiving limited playing time, transferring, having a breakout season end early, going undrafted, and working through each level of professional baseball. He is still living the development process himself.
The objective is simple: build more complete hitters who can understand their game, own their development, and perform when it matters.
